Ulaanbaatar to Arkhangai

• The riders will meet at CF Moto Mongolia office at 8:00 AM for tour preview and motorcycle introduction meeting. After the meeting, we will start riding to the southeast of Ulaanbaatar to Nalaikh district. We will stop at the Chinggis Khan Statue Complex for a rest and have a little tour of the complex. We will continue riding to Oortsog enger where we will have our picnic sand steppe. Enjoy a local specialty for dinner. Rest at the campsite.

• After breakfast, we will continue heading to Ikh Gazriin Chuluu. We will pack our lunch from our camp in the morning and have it on the way. Ikh Gazriin Chuluu is the largest part of the granite area of Mongolia. Located in Govi-Ugtaal and Bayanjargalan soum of Dundgovi province, Ikh Gazriin Chuluu is a beautiful rock formation in the Gobi desert. There are over 40 caves in the area, and they are easy to access and close to each other, making it ideal for hiking. One of the caves, named Olgii, according to local people, used to be full of mysterious books and scriptures.

The highest point of Ikh Gazriin Chuluu is Yurlug Mountain, which is 1706 meters in height. Ikh Gazriin Chuluu became a government-protected area in 2003 due to its unique landscape. It covers almost 600 square km and is located 80 km to the southeast of Mandalgovi, the center of Dundgovi province. Finally, you will arrive at the Ger camp where you can rest and enjoy the evening.

After breakfast, we will continue heading to White Stupa. We will pack our lunch from our camp in the morning and have it on the way. Tsagaan Suvarga is located in Southern Mongolia, which has the warmest climate in Mongolia. Summer is the most convenient season to visit because of longer daylight time and warmer weather. Mongolia is overcrowded with domestic and international tourists in July because of the Naadam Festival, the biggest festival in Mongolia.

After breakfast, we will continue heading south with a brief stop in Southgobi province where you will refuel and buy groceries for the next few days. We will have to ride further for 270 kms’ to reach the Southgobi provience Dalanzadgad city. We will cross the immense plains and long uninhabited distances of the South Gobi, where you will hardly cross a vehicle on the road. Lunch will be served in a local village on the way.  You will arrive at the Hotel at the end of the afternoon, where each one will be able to enjoy.

Today, you leave the Dalanzadgad town and head towards the southernmost part of the Mongolian Gobi Desert. Our final destination of the day is “Yolyn Am” or “Lammergeier Valley”, situated in the Eastern Mountain range of the “Three Beauties Mountain Range”. The Yolyn Am Valley is one of the Nine Wonders in Umnugovi province. It is 56 km from the central town named Dalanzadgad in Southgobi province to reach the valley. We will have lunch in Dalanzadgad town and ride to the “Lammergeier Valley”, which is 56 km from the town. Upon arrival at the valley, it is advised to walk through the valley since it gets narrower further you go. Lammergeier Valley goes through between high rocky mountain massifs of the Eastern Beauty. We will explore the area, walking through the high gorges of Yolin Am. Finally, you will arrive at the Ger camp where you can rest and enjoy the evening.

After breakfast, we will continue exploring the Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Our final destination of the day will be Khongor Sand Dune. Khongor Sand Dune is located in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park and is one of the Nine Wonders in Umnugovi province. It is located 216km away in the west of the central town Dalanzadgad of the province. Khongor dunes stretch for 130 km, and their width varies from 3 to 20 km, settled between Sevrei, Zuulun, and Bayan Bor high mountain ranges. Today will be a hard day, but no less spectacular, with different types of road, including sand. You will enjoy riding parallel to the largest set of dunes in the southern area of the Gobi. After lunch, we will explore the area on our bikes and do other activities, like riding camels for 30 minutes or hiking up to the dunes. Visit of the nomad family will be the highlight of the day. We will ride back to our camp after we are done exploring. Dinner and overnight stay in the Ger camp.

After our breakfast, we will reach the steppes. We will travel from the south to the north through the green Mongolian steppes on the day when we will do more kilometers of the tour. We will cross Flaming Cliff (Bayanzag) on the way. The Flaming Cliffs is the canyons more typical of Arizona and documented by the adventurer and explorer Roy Andrews Chapman in 1923, which is said to have been the inspiration for the Indiana Jones character. We will again pack our lunch from our camp in the morning and have it on the way. Upon arrival, we will hike around the area, exploring and experiencing the area as the way the expeditioners did. After riding around and exploring the area, we will head back to the ger camp for rest. Dinner and overnight stay in the tourist yurt camp.

After breakfast, we will reach the steppes. We will travel from south to north across the green Mongolian steppes on the day, when we will cover more kilometers on the tour to Arvaikheer. We will enjoy the beauty of nature along the way and eat a packed lunch. We will arrive at our hotel in Arvaikheer for dinner and rest. Please note that today’s route will be 100% off-road.

After breakfast, we will reach the waterfall, which can be reached in 4-5 hours from Kharkhorin (Karakorum) and in 2-3 hours from Tuvkhun temple. Travel routes from the Gobi Desert to Central Mongolia pass close by the waterfall. The road to the waterfall is not easily accessible, owing to the rocky surface of the area along the Orkhon river. Dinner and overnight stay in the tourist yurt camp.

After breakfast, we will travel through the forests and high mountains to Tsenkheri Hot Springs, a famous hot spring in Mongolia. On the way, we will visit the ancient and historic Tuvkhon Buddhist Monastery and reach our destination. This evening we will relax in a hot spring. Tsenkheri hot spring is the second hottest spring in Mongolia after Shargaljuut hot spring. The water temperature reaches 86 degrees Celsius. It is an alkaline spring containing sulfuric acid and silicon compounds and is used for medicinal purposes. Tsenkher hot spring is useful for rheumatism, nerve and muscle pain, and joint pain, and it is also useful for improving the digestive system, restoring immunity after surgery, and recharging oneself. Drinking small doses of the water or bathing for a certain period of time is a therapeutic method.

After breakfast, we will travel through the forests and mountains, cliffs to Khorgo extinct volcano. Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake National Park is located in Tariat soum of Arkhangai province. Khorgo is an extinct volcano that lies on the east shore of Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake. The volcano erupted 8000 years ago and changed its surroundings once and for all. Today the area is covered by basalt rocks, Siberian pine and larch forest. The Khorgo Crater can be found at the northern side of the Khorgo volcano. With 200m radius and 80m depth, the Khorgo Crater provides a rare view of an extinct volcano. The area is perfect for hiking. Travel on highways 70% and dirt roads 30%

After breakfast, we will set off on an asphalt road trip towards the city of Kharkhorin. Kharkhorin is an ancient capital city of the Great Mongol Empire established by Chinggis Khaan in 1220. From here Chinggis Khaan conquered China making Kharkhorin his base and headquarters. His son and successor Ogodei Khaan continued to build the capital making it an attractive location for traders and scholars from Asia and Europe. Today we travel on highway 100%.

After breakfast, we will set off on an asphalt road trip towards the city of Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, we will return the motorbike, visit the Genghis Khan Museum, have dinner, and then stroll around the city to take pictures. Today we travel on highway 100%.
